Gamma Mu Delts pride themselves on the idea that academics always come first, and are proud to be one of the most diverse houses in terms of areas of study. We have brothers in almost every department at the University of Washington that are active in research projects and professional development. Many of our brothers are currently advancing their education beyond UW. This past winter quarter we had 42 members reach Dean’s List status, and recent grade reports can be found here.
Through the generosity of James Nelson, Gamma Mu ’50, and many other Gamma Mu alumni, a scholarship fund has been established for the sole benefit of undergraduate members of Gamma Mu Chapter of Delta Tau Delta. The fund, named the Finn Petersen Memorial Endowed Gamma Mu Chapter Scholarship Fund, is managed by the University of Washington. The Financial Aid Office will award the scholarships based on the recommendations of the Gamma Mu Chapter Alumni Scholarship Committee and demonstrated need as determined by the Financial Aid Office. Members of the committee are Denny Brawford (ΓΜ ’61), Dave Schrader (ΓΜ ’83), Dean Maggs (ΓΜ ’85), Scott Nagel (ΓΜ ’87), and Paul Son (ΓΜ ’08). Any active member with a 2.7 GPA is welcome to apply for the scholarship.
Business and Work
Ranging from business to engineering to philanthropic work, Gamma Mu Delts are diversified in their careers. The connections made through our brotherhood last a lifetime. Below is an abbreviated list of some of the notable companies our brothers have recently pursued inside and outside their time at the University of Washington.
Ernst & Young
Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center
Seattle Children’s Hospital
Our brothers are also enjoy pursuing athletics outside of their time spent in the classroom or professional environments. In the past year alone, we have won 3 Intramural Championships and we are always in the pursuit for more, and our house is also home to multiple UW club sports participants
Our primary philanthropic event is our annual Miss Greek Pageant, where we invite a representative from each sorority to participate. Miss Greek is a fundraiser to support Cancer for College, which provides scholarships to low-income, high-achieving cancer survivors. In our years of hosting this event, we have raised over 1.5 million dollars in support of our philanthropy. This enlists our event as the largest of any greek philanthropy west of the Mississippi! Our fundraising link is here
Our 2019 Miss Greek Philanthropy was a great success, helping raise over $33,000 to support Cancer for College, and was capped off with the pageant held at the Neptune Theatre on June 3rd, 2019.
Delts are also incredibly active with other philanthropies within the UW Greek System. In the last few years alone, we have donated over $20,000 to neighboring houses’ philanthropies.
